Law makes people and government work according to rules and regulations in a legal way. A law firm consists of a group of lawyers who are legally allowed to practice according to the said rules laid down in their country and this takes the form of a business where they earn money from their profession. It can be said that lawyers with different and varied expertise in civil and criminal cases come under one roof to offer their services for a single client which is popularly known as law firm. They advise their clients about their legal rights (civil and criminal) and they offer to represent their clients legally and thus providing them with business services they need.

There are various forms of arrangements and these arrangements should be according to the jurisdiction. Some of these arrangements are sole and general proprietorship, professional corporations and associations, LLC (limited liability Company) and LLP (limited liability partnership). Ownership is an important discussion because in United States and United Kingdom only legal lawyers can be the owners and managers of the firm in business. Generally small size law firms concentrate on a certain specialty but larger law firms concentrate on more than one specialty such as patent, litigation, copyright, criminal, personal injury, divorce, labor law, tax law, etc for their business to move. There are almost 901 law firms in United States with more than 50 lawyers. Many large organizations bill their clients on per hour basis and the rate of billing may be around $750 or more depending upon the service and. Some of these large organizations are global law firms having their operations in many countries and they have a good depth of knowledge about the law of the land. Some of these firms have earned more than $2 billion as revenues in this business.

Salaries for new lawyers or fresh graduates chiefly depend upon the country in which it is located and to the clients it serves. Some corporations in developed countries pay around US$50, 000 per year to US$135,000. Salaries do not count for the better part as it gets increased according to the service and experience. Bonuses, luxurious lifestyle, chauffer driven cars, recognition in the society, modern villas, etc are some of the perks associated with lawyers of exceptional talent. Some of the best lawyers have moved onto become legal advisers to countries.

Pharma companies have been the worst sufferers because of legal petitions. Pharmaceutical companies suffered some of the worst court cases because of malfunctioning and inadequate research of their medicines which have killed patients. Often out of court settlements happen for these companies which amount to billions of dollars. Patent and copyright infringement litigations have the highest billing because of the complexity and research involved. Often Pharmaceutical companies need to protect their research and medical composition of their medicines because of which they hire eminent lawyers.

Overall many law firms calculate the overall revenue per individual rather which limits the size of the law firm. Law firms have modern building with very good interior design so that they can capture their counsel`s client and make them feel inferior. Solo practitioners often set up their practice in their home by extending the built up area. Many large organizations require bachelors and an MBA degree from their employees. Criminal psychology also forms a special part of the overall requirements.
