Discussing Oriental Rug Cleaning Methods
There are various types of Oriental rug cleaning methods. It is important that prior to choosing a particular method you make sure that you know what to do and what to use. You have to be fully aware of the need to do your best to retain the rug's quality and value. The more treading and traffic it is exposed to, the more you will need to clean it on a regular basis.
One of the first things to do, ideally as often as you, is to vacuum the rug. By doing this regularly you will be reducing the amount of dust particles and other loose dirt that gets trapped in its fibers. Make sure not to brush it rigorously so as not to do any damage to the fibers. Ideally always move the vacuum cleaner's head in the same direction. It is best to use the suction attachment so as not to risk damaging it in any way. If you want to clean the rug more thoroughly, vacuum it one both sides, not just on the upper surface.
Vacuuming is just a basic cleaning method. In order to clean the rug better you will have to use water from time to time. In these instances move the carpet outdoors so as not to make a mess, especially if it is rather big and not that manageable. Make sure that the area where you are going to work is clean.
Start off by wetting the rug with water. Never use warm or hot water as you could harm the fibers. While it is still wet, apply some mild shampoo that is suitable for oriental rugs in a small area. Ideally choose an area that is unnoticeable. It is crucial that you buy a good quality shampoo that is specialized for these cleaning purposes. Anything containing strong chemicals such as ammonia is not suitable. You cannot use just any shampoo, soap or washing liquid because you have a good chance of discoloring the carpet or cause similar problems.
Carefully work in the shampoo with your finger tips and allow it to work for a few minutes. Then rinse the area with cool water and check if the carpet retained its original color. If everything is fine, then you can start to apply the shampoo over the whole area.
Use a soft bristled brush to work it in the fibers. Do not brush rigorously. If your rug has fringes at the border, make sure to brush them even more softly. Brush the carpet on both sides. Always move along the grain of the fibers.
When you are ready use a garden hose to rinse the shampoo residue off. Make sure that there is no soapy residue left on it. Then, use a clean floor squeegee to squeeze away any excess water from it. Allow it to dry by laying it flat on the floor. This may take some time, depending on the weather conditions.
When you are sure that it has completely dried, move it back indoors. Vacuum it so as to smooth it out better. Oriental rug cleaning methods need to be used carefully so as not to ruin the carpet in any way, especially considering its beauty and value.
